Pediatric Services
At Columbia, we firmly believe that parents and families know their children best. Our speech-language pathologists listen to your concerns and help children by assessing and providing child – and family-centred therapy at home, school and play.
Speech
Speech, also known as articulation or pronunciation, refers to the ability to move the lips, tongue and jaw to produce the sounds that make up words and sentences. We provide assessment and child-focused treatment to help improve speech skills.
Language & Cognitive Language
Language encompasses speaking, reading, writing, and cognitive-language involves the thought processes involved in using language. We assess and treat children who have expressive and/or receptive language difficulties that impact academic and social success.
Stuttering / Fluency
Stuttering occurs when the flow, rhythm and speed of speech is disrupted by repetitions, prolongations, and or blocks/pauses. While stuttering is not seen as a problem to be fixed, we offer assessment and treatment in our dynamic programs to help clients augment their speech.
Neurodivergent / Autism
Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may present with a range of communication challenges that can vary in severity and form. This neurodiverse population may approach communication in nontypical ways, and we are here to help assess, create personalized goals and therapy programs for your child.
